Our Story
Meet Becs - Founder of Era
Men outnumber women at Ironman start lines by around 5 to 1. Rebecca founded Era to help change that. But she wasn't always a triathlete. Her fitness journey began at age 12, when she started playing tennis on Saturday mornings, persevering week after week as one of the few girls there. By 16, that persistence had taken her to LTA tournaments and she qualified as a Level 2 Tennis Coach to help out at her local club. When Rebecca went to university, she wanted to become fitter to improve her tennis. She joined the social running club, but something changed. After completing the couch to 5km programme and her first local 10km event, running started to become more than just a way to get fitter. By her second year, she completed three half marathon events. Then came triathlon.During her university placement year, Rebecca trained for her first standard-distance triathlon alongside two close friends. This companionship gave the confidence to try something new. That first triathlon opened the door to a whole new world.Rebecca joined her university triathlon club in her final year, where she found a community of her closest friends. She discovered how much easier and more enjoyable sport can feel when you have people beside you. This led to aquathlons, duathlon and her first half-ironman event. Since graduating, she has continued pushing herself with 100-mile cycling sportives and the Castle to Coast triathlon sportive from Windsor to Brighton. But the biggest thing Rebecca took from her journey wasn't the races. It was the confidence, friendships and sense of belonging that came from simply having other people alongside her. Many women never get that first opportunity.Era is for women who want to take their first steps into triathlon, improve their swimming, cycling or running, or simply find a community of like-minded women to train, socialise and have fun with. You don't need to be fast.
You don't need expensive kit.
You don't need to call yourself an athlete.
You just need to be willing to start.Rebecca is now qualifying as a Level 3 Personal Trainer, with a goal of helping more women discover the confidence, friendships and enjoyment that sport has given her. From couch to start line and everything in between. This is Era.
